The National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) held a webinar on March 29, 2012 that explored the linkages between comprehensive teacher induction programs and improved teacher and student outcomes. In partnership with the New Teacher Center, this webinar highlighted the importance of comprehensive induction programs for new teachers, the role of state policy in developing, supporting and evaluating these programs and examples of state action.
The webinar also marked the release of a new NASBE discussion guide titled “Teacher Induction Programs: Improving State Systems for Supporting New Teachers.” The discussion guide provides contemporary research on the important issues in teacher induction, elements of effective teacher induction, state-level policy examples of action and a set of guiding questions for policymakers to consider when addressing these issues.
Speaker:
Liam Goldrick, Policy Director, New Teacher Center, discusses elements of comprehensive induction policy for new teachers and highlights findings from a recently released New Teacher Center report titled “Review of State Policies on Teacher Induction” that examines state-level policy on teacher induction. The New Teacher Center is a nonprofit organization that works to reduce the achievement gap in our nation’s schools by accelerating the effectiveness of new teachers through comprehensive induction programs and by scaling these practices in partnership with schools, districts and policymakers.
