In just a few weeks, 15 states will be conducting PARCC field tests involving a sample of over one million students. The field test will occur over two testing windows. The first window is March 24-April 11, 2014, and will be focused on the performance-based component of PARCC’s assessment. The second window will be May 6-June 6, 2014, for the end-of-year component.
As with a practice run at the Olympics, field testing allows states to see how a new test performs in a realistic setting: Are the tests being delivered fairly and accurately? What questions work well, which ones need to be improved for better assessment? Are the appropriate technological and administrative logistics ready for implementation in the 2014-15 school year?
