Matt Hymas has served on the Utah State Board of Education since 2021 and was reelected in November 2024 for another four-year term. Hymas has chaired the Utah board’s Law & Licensing Committee since 2023. He also serves on the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice and is a member of the NASBE Governmental Affairs Committee.
Hymas is an experienced educator. In the span of his 15-year career, he was a math teacher, athletic director, junior high principal, assistant secondary director, high school principal, and now severs as the superintendent of Excelsior Academy. Hymas earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics teaching from the University of Utah, a master’s degree in educational leadership degree from Central Michigan University, and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
