NASBE President on Texas Tragedy

Alexandria, VA – NASBE President and CEO Paolo DeMaria today made this statement on the tragic elementary school shooting that occurred in Uvalde, Texas, yesterday:

Educators and communities work mightily to make schools joyful, safe, supportive places to learn. It is shocking and reprehensible when such places experience horrific violence and those within are harmed and killed. Our tears flow and our hearts mourn for the victims and the community of Robb Elementary School, in Uvalde, Texas. I join with state board of education members across the country to renew our commitment to end school violence. We must do more to protect our children and keep them safe and well.

NASBE serves as the only membership organization for state boards of education. A nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, NASBE elevates state board members’ voices in national and state policymaking, facilitates the exchange of informed ideas, and supports members in advancing equity and excellence in public education for students of all races, genders, and circumstances.
